Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
As a First Nations student seeking tutoring support, the first step is to log into Chronus using your CQUniversity login details. Once you login to Chronus, you will be prompted to complete a student profile. This profile is important, as it will detail what course you are studying and which units you require tutoring assistance with, which will assist Chronus in matching you with potential Learning Advisors. From here, you can browse through the profiles of recommended Learning Advisors and create a connection request once you have found a Learning Advisor that you think will meet your tutoring needs. How long will the Learning Advisor be available?
We ask our Learning Advisors to make commitments for the entire Term, to ensure that students can fully benefit from the matching process. If a Learning Advisor must leave the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Program early, we will communicate this with you and endeavor match another suitable Learning Advisor as soon as possible. The relationship is not going well, or I am concerned about my Learning Advisor – what should I do?
We encourage you to contact our team to assist you by emailing ITAP@cqu.edu.au or calling 07 4930 9988 to advise us of the situation immediately. We will provide our full support to resolve the situation in a positive and satisfactory manner.Students, please:
1. Set aside time for the tutoring process and keep all scheduled appointments with your Learning Advisor. Learning Advisors will do their best to help you, but take a proactive role in shaping the relationship with your tutor.2. Communicate to your Learning Advisor what you want from the tutoring relationship, including your goals and aspirations. These goals will be recorded on Chronus. It is recommended that one of the first activities completed with your Learning Advisor should be to plan your tutorial sessions for the term, and record your goals and aspirations.
3. Come to meetings with your Learning Advisor prepared for the planned topics scheduled for that tutorial. It is recommended that you communicate regularly with your Learning Advisor. Tutoring needs can change, so it’s important that you communicate your learning needs with your tutor.
4. Communicate frequently with students via a method agreed upon with the students (i.e., Zoom/Microsoft Teams, Chronus, phone, staff email, etc., as appropriate). If email is the preferred method of communication for your student/s, please respond to emails within two (2) days of receipt.
5. Learning Advisor about your challenges. Learning Advisors can only help you with your academic study if they truly understand what you need assistance with.
6. Attend all scheduled meetings with your tutor. We understand plans change, but give a minimum of 24 hours notice.
7. Confirm the hours that your tutor meets with you on a weekly basis. This should be confirmed in the Chronus platform.
